Little experiment

I have decided to do a little experiment with a few of my babies. I have 3 babies that survived when all the older babies died last weekend and these 3 are doing well.

I decide I wanted to see how they get on growing in an established aquarium while they grow as keeping the 3 of them in a separate tub is a lot of work and I don't want to mix them in with the rest of the babies.

Here are my 3 test subjects.

They are currently eating and are getting drip fed some of the water from the aquarium to get used to the water before they go in.

The aquarium is my 25 litre shrimp tank that also has 3 white cloud mountain minnows in there too. My thinking is that there is nothing in this tank that should eat the baby axolotls and when the shrimp have babies the axolotl's can eat them.

I just thought that it would be good to see how much slower or faster the babies develop in the aquarium compared to the other babies that are seperate and kept in tubs.

Here is a photo of the tank before the babies go in.

I have lowered the water level to make it easier for the babies to reach the surface if they need to and I have been feeding the fish baby brine shrimp anyway every day so the babies should be fine.

I will also order some daphnia after Christmas and release then into the tank as extra food.

The 3 babies are now in the aquarium and settling in. They all look tiny and were very hard to spot but I managed to find them eventually.

As this aquarium has gravel the babies will not be able to stay in there for too long as the gravel will become a danger once it is the size of their head. I would guess that this will be a while yet but once they are a bit bigger we will have to get a plan b. Not sure yet if this will be selling or giving away or moving to a bigger tank with sand on the bottom.

I have been thinking about moving this aquarium setup into a bigger tank so I may do that and keep everyone together. Like I said it's a long way off yet but it's good to plan.
